When Southern Company changed their logo, they had us make changes or replacements to their various brands all over the Southeast. The most impressive of these was the high-rise branding on their Georgia Power corporate headquarters on Ralph McGill Boulevard in Atlanta. The two new signs are each 100’ feet wide and installed at about 300’ above grade.
Not surprisingly, Georgia Power understands the value of energy efficiency. This is clear from the passive solar design of their headquarters building; the sloping glass face of the southern exposure gives the lower winter sun a warming advantage over the summer sun, which passes higher in the sky. Their energy consciousness is also clear from their choice to light their signs with high-efficiency LEDs. Not only do LEDs’ high reliability provide substantial savings on maintenance costs, but they also reduce energy consumption by as much as 75% over alternative light sources.
